Service: Information, Orientation and Referral

Eligibility:
All immigrants, refugees and community members assisting immigrants or refugees. This service is available to all individuals regardless of immigration status or length of time in Canada.

Location:
Peterborough office; Cobourg office; Phone, Email, SKYPE; Possibility of off-site services in other locations in catchment area (determined on a case-by-case basis).

We provide:

  • Orientation to Life in Canada
  • Information on, referral to and help accessing important community and government programs in many areas including health, housing, finances, education, legal, and transportation
  • Information on and referral to recreational and social opportunities in the community

Note:
We do not provide assistance with systems and processes outside of Canada (e.g. foreign passports, foreign pensions) but will direct clients to appropriate information sources (e.g. consulate or embassy)

We do not provide legal advice but can explain information on reputable websites and help clients connect to and work with certified lawyers.

Service: Important Documents

Eligibility:
All immigrants and refugees

Location:
Peterborough office; Cobourg office; Phone, Email, SKYPE; Possibility of off-site services in other locations in catchment area (determined on a case-by-case basis).

We support individuals in obtaining the following important immigration documents and services by providing information, helping to fill in forms, and helping clients to obtain documents and services when issues arise:

  • OHIP
  • Social Insurance Number
  • Canada Child Benefits
  • Healthy Smiles – (Dental)
  • Canadian Passport
  • Ontario Photo Card
  • Driver’s Licence

Service: Vulnerable Person Support

Eligibility:
All immigrants and refugees with barriers specific to the newcomer experience who are navigating systems where the outcome is essential and they lack both capacity and resources to do so independently or with the sole aid of a partner agency

Location:
Peterborough office; Cobourg office; Phone, Email, SKYPE; Possibility of off-site services in other locations in catchment area (determined on a case-by-case basis).

We provide support with the following issues:

  • Domestic abuse
  • Family law
  • Pregnancy
  • Mental health / mental illness
  • Social assistance

Note:
We do not take on primary responsibility for these issues but will provide support and, where needed, connect client to case management services.

Eligibility:
Varies by Workshop

Location:
Peterborough Office; Cobourg Office

We hold different workshops throughout the year on various topics, such as:

  • Sponsoring a Family Member
  • How to Manage Your Money
  • How to File Your Income Taxes.
  • Citizenship Test Preparation
