Activities and Events

We offer many activities and events throughout the year. To keep up to date, please join our mailing list by sending your email address to our Outreach Coordinator. You will receive one or two emails per month letting you know about our activities, events, job postings, and important news.

You can also follow us on Twitter @NCC_Ptbo or on Facebook to receive event and program updates.

Here are some of our regular events:

Multicultural Canada Day Festival
Every Canada Day (July 1) we organize a celebration of cultural diversity in Canada and Peterborough. At the event there are live performances of dance and music. There are also 40+ vendors selling food and crafts from all over the world.   This is the biggest event of the year for the New Canadians Centre. In 2013, over 10,000 people visited us at Del Crary Park.

If you are interested in volunteering, performing or participating as a vendor, then please contact the Community Coordinator.

International Dances and Potluck Dinners
Do you want to meet more people in Peterborough? Would you like to meet more people from your native country? Do you love different types of food from different parts of the world? Do you want to learn Latin dance, or hear tunes from Africa? Then please come to our multicultural potlucks and international dances! The events are informal and do not require registration.

Women’s Group
Join our women’s group for fun events. This social group invites all women to come together to discuss different topics, share ideas, and participate in social events.  It is a great way to meet others and give support to new Canadian women.  The meetings are informal and do not require registration.

KidsClub
We offer fun events for children during special weeks of the year, as well as P.A. days during the school year.  This is a great way for your child to meet other children under the supervision of our experienced volunteers.  Please contact the SWIS Coordinator for more information and to register your child in the program.

English/Spanish/French Conversation Classes
We offer conversation classes for newcomers and community members to practice a new language.  Participants should have some basic knowledge of the language before coming to the classes. The classes are informal and do not require registration.  Spanish and French classes are open to NCC volunteers and members.

Group Trips
We have explored the Peterborough Petroglyphs, ridden bicycles to Lakefield, canoed Little Lake, taken a boat tour through the 1,000 Islands, visited Niagara Falls, and have seen a Blue Jays baseball game.  If you have a good idea for a trip, please let us know.
