Our Settlement Services

Currently, the New Canadians Centre offers the following settlement services:

Initial Needs Assessment

On your first visit to our office, we will ask you to fill in required paper work and answer certain questions so that we can fully understand your situation and your needs. We will also give you more detailed information on our services and on upcoming programs, workshops, and events. We ask that you please bring any immigration documents you have to your first meeting.   All information you provide is kept strictly confidential, and will never be shared outside of the organization without your permission.

Information and Orientation

The staff at the New Canadians Centre are trained to help you find answers to all the day-to-day questions that come up in your life as a new Canadian. These include questions about the community, education, health, housing and more. We also hold different workshops throughout the year; previous workshops have included Sponsoring a Family Member, How to Manage Your Money and How to File Your Income Taxes. Check our blog for up-to-date information about current workshops and events.

When the services you require are beyond what we can offer at the New Canadians Centre, the staff will gladly refer you to an agency that is able to help. We will give you information about available services in the community and how to access them. We can help set up an appointment on your behalf, and if necessary, accompany you to your appointment. The New Canadians Centre works closely with various community agencies to make sure you have access to the resources you need.

Solution Focused Counselling

Maybe you need more than just information.  Perhaps you need help filling out an application or calling someone on the phone.  Are you having troubles with your landlord?  Are you feeling lonely or depressed or scared? Maybe you just need someone to talk to. The staff at the New Canadians Centre are trained to listen and support you without judgment and with complete confidentiality. If you want to meet privately with a staff member, just let us know.

Computer Services

Our computer room offers a welcoming environment equipped with the latest technology. Clients are welcome to use the computers equipped with high speed Internet. You can write your résumé, search for a job, or keep in touch with your friends and family. You can also make use of our fax machine, photocopier and printer. (Small charges apply for long distance calls and printing.)
