Alvea Hurlington is the Community Engagement Assistant, supporting efforts to build bridges between the Peterborough community and the New Canadians Centre. Alvea has lived in Peterborough for more than 15 years. She has also lived in Toronto for post-secondary education. Alvea is a 3rd-year Social Work student at Ryerson University, a career choice that was fuelled by her years as a volunteer at the New Canadians Centre.
Although born and raised in Canada, she has always felt especially connected to other migrants and newcomers. Her multicultural family heritage inspires her to connect deeply with various cultures. Alvea wants to help the Peterborough community engage with newcomers and see them as equal and valuable members of our community. When She is not working at the NCC, Alvea enjoys reading, cooking (especially spicy food!), music, and fitness training. Additionally, Alvea loves to be involved with, and surrounded by, her religious community.
