Celebrating Small Wins

It is easy to feel daunted by global events and economic pressures today. The ice storm was just one more challenge to overcome.

I hope you got a boost from reading our special edition of the “New Canadian Times” filled with good news from our clients.

It is important to celebrate happy moments, especially now. Right here in our community, life-changing milestones are being achieved every day by newcomers building new lives. We call these steps “small wins,” but they often feel huge to the people taking them:

  • A good first day at school for a child who has never gone to school before
  • A newcomer who can proudly call themselves Canadian after passing their citizenship test and taking their oath
  • A family who has moved into an affordable housing unit
  • A youth who has blossomed in their confidence after high school and is ready to chart a new course in university
  • A brother and sister who can finally use their skills to support their family
  • Women who come together and find a community that uplifts them
  • A class full of English language learners who want to volunteer and give back to a community that has welcomed them with open arms

These small wins are a reminder that even in tough times, progress is possible – and that your support plays a key role in making these successes happen.

Growing up in Peterborough, I have seen our community change over the years. I greatly value the role of the New Canadians Centre in making our community more diverse and inclusive. Over more than 45 years, NCC’s success is rooted in support from community members like you.

Will you join me today to continue to help?

You can invest in innovative programs and services that support and connect people who are new to Canada to services, each other, and the community.

Now, because of 45 years of small wins, the New Canadians Centre has a big win: we are the proud of owners of 221 Romaine St., the location we have rented from St. James United Church since 2012. Having more space and a permanent home will open up so many new opportunities for positive impact.

As a dedicated supporter, you understand the importance of empowering newcomers while they try to find their place in a new country with different expectations and systems.

Your gift today to the Welcome Fund will help us to offer innovative and practical programs that are free and accessible to people who are new in Canada.

Every gift helps! Join us in bringing people together and realise our vision of a vibrant and inclusive community where people who are new to Canada thrive and are valued.

Sincerely,

Andy Cragg
Executive Director

P.S. If you have already made a donation, thank you for investing in programs that break down barriers and bring everyone together!
