Community Education
The New Canadians Centre helps individuals and organisations advance their EDI knowledge and workplans by providing a diverse range of training, tools and information. These resreouces help open a window into the experiences of newcomers to Canada and how we can build more welcoming spaces for all people.
Our Community Education offerings include:
Anti-Discrimination Training
The Community Training Program (CTP) offers a range of interactive workshops on anti-discrimination with a focus on building welcoming spaces for newcomers to Canada.
Each workshop is a standalone offering and can be tailored to your organisation or setting. In this pilot stage, there is no cost associated with booking a workshop.
Book a Speaker
The Living Library is a multi-modal storytelling and public education program that aims to share human stories of immigration and integration by highlighting diverse and compelling stories of transition, settlement and belonging.
Listen to our podcast series, watch our video stories, or book a featured speaker for your gathering, event, or classroom.
Our Neighbourhood
"Our Neighbourhood" delves into the unique stories and journeys of newcomers, shedding light on their varied experiences. At the heart of them all is the search for belonging and the success that can be achieved through community – and a good neighbourly welcome.
What does it mean to be a good neighbour, to welcome people who are new to Canada, and to build a more diverse and just society for everyone?
Children's Book
Building A Home is inspired by the candid accounts and beautiful artwork shared by six newcomer children who are now living, playing, and going to school in Nogojiwanong-Peterborough.
Building A Homewas commissioned by the New Canadians Centre and written and illustrated by Casandra Lee.
Digital copies are free and available in nine languages. Physical copies are available for $15. We also welcome opportunities to visit elementary school classrooms for readings and activities.
Classroom Resources
Storytelling is a powerful tool that can help us discover ourselves, heal, and build community. Through stories, we connect.
The New Canadians Centre has produced several resources in which newcomers tell the stories that are important to them. These include videos, photography, podcasts, and artwork. These reources are available to the public for free and can be meaningfully incorporated into your classroom activities.
