Launch of Multicultural Festival

New Canadians Centre launches Multicultural Food Crawl 2024

PETERBOROUGH – June 27 is Canadian Multiculturalism Day.

For the month of June, the New Canadians Centre will be organizing the Canadian Multicultural Festival, a series of programs and events to celebrate multiculturalism in Peterborough.

We are excited to start things off with the launch of the Multicultural Food Crawl 2024!

Multicultural Food Crawl

Taste the flavours of the world at 10 restaurants in downtown Peterborough!

For every $10 you spend between June 1 and 30, you will receive a stamp in your Multicultural Food Passport. Collect six stamps and enter in a draw to win one of three $100 Boro Gift Cards that you can use downtown!

Pick up your Multicultural Food Passport at the New Canadians Centre or any of the participating restaurants and between June 1 and 30:

  • Ariyana
  • Bhojan
  • Cork & Bean
  • Curry Village
  • Fresh Dreams
  • La Mesita Restaurante
  • Levantine Grill
  • Milk + Tea Shop
  • Oasis Mediterranean Grill (OMG)
  • Village of Thai

Monica Silva and her husband Alvaro De La Guardia are the owners of Fresh Dreams. They are happy to share their cuisine with the community: “In Spain, our culture, our unity, and our love starts from the table where we spend hours talking with families and friends while sharing family-style meals. Through my dishes and Fresh Dreams, I want to show the community a part of Europe and my culture.”

Flavours of the World Sampling Day

Taste a sample from each of the participating restaurants at the NCC’s 45th Anniversary Block Party (221 Romaine Street) on Friday June 28 between 2 and 6 pm (while supplies last).

Last year, the New Canadians Centre supported over 2000 newcomers from more than 100 countries around the world. This is the highest number of clients ever, and a 50% increase over the previous year.

“Celebrating the richness of multiculturalism is at the heart of community-building. We may be one small organization in one part of a huge country, but in celebrations like these and in the work that the New Canadians does every day, we are on the front lines of building an inclusive and prosperous multicultural society. This is where the magic happens! And all of you are a part of it,” says Andy Cragg, Executive Director of the New Canadians Centre.
