Irene (She/Her) is an artist and new Youth Worker at the New Canadian Centre (NCC). Her background in International Development and Political Studies equips her well for understanding the challenges faced by vulnerable communities. As a Salvadoran and an immigrant, Irene has learned the power of community, resilience, and the importance of finding a sense of belonging in new environments.

Irene shares a deep passion of using art as a foundation for connecting and empowering youth, particularly in navigating their personal and collective identities. Her approach seeks to provide a safe space for youth to explore their experiences, express themselves, and find self-confidence. With experience as communications coordinator, journalist and interpreter, Irene brings cross-cultural communication skills and a commitment to amplifying voices that can often be overlooked. Her previous work in advocacy and community outreach has reinforced her belief in the transformative power of storytelling, dialogue, and creativity.
