Roshan was born in Sulaymaniyah, Iraq. Before coming to Canada, she spent 8 years in a refugee camp in Syria. During that time, she experienced and had to overcome many challenging hardships in order to immigrate to Canada. As a former refugee, she understands and can relate to what newcomers face when accommodating to a new environment.
Roshan has made Peterborough her home for the past 22 years and has been working with newcomers over the years as a translator and support worker with different agencies and organizations in Peterborough and the surrounding area as well as the GTA (being fluent in both Kurdish and Arabic) which she has enjoyed immensely.
Roshan is excited to join the New Canadians Centre. Her goals are to make the transition for newcomers very smooth and welcoming when settling in Peterborough. In her spare time, she enjoys cooking, spending time with friends and family as well as going on road trips with her family and her two children.
