Living Library Plus: From Istanbul to Peterborough: Building a new life in Canada

We’re partnering with the Peterborough Public Library to deliver a program featuring personal storytelling and cultural food-sharing. NCC’s Living Library Plus aims to share human stories of immigration and integration by highlighting diverse and compelling stories of transition, settlement and belonging.
Participants will begin each event with a potluck featuring foods they’ve made from that month’s Spice Club Takeaway Kits. Attendees will have first dibs on the next month’s kits!

Fidan was born in Istanbul, Turkey. She had a happy and fulfilling childhood and youth surrounded by a large, loving family and strong friendships built over the years. With an educational background in engineering, Fidan had over eight years of corporate sales experience in two different industries.
After her son’s birth, concerns about economic & social instabilities and problems with the education system in Turkey became a priority, leading her to pursue alternatives for a more promising future for her family. Leaving loved ones and her secure job behind, she embarked on an adventure with her nuclear family to build a new life in Canada. They faced many challenges navigating the uncertainties of being newcomers to a different country.
Her story is about pursuing dreams of a better future, creating opportunities, and building resilience to realize them, collecting unforgettable memories along the way.
