Volunteer Tutor
Volunteer Tutor
As a Volunteer Tutor you will help newcomers improve their English skills and gain confidence. Common areas that clients request help with are:
• General English Language (experience and/or training required)
• Studying for citizenship tests or drivers license
• Basic computer use (Microsoft Word, Internet, etc.)
Volunteer Tutors are high in demand (especially those with ESL and TESL experience) and are greatly appreciated by our clients. Tutors will work one-on-one with adult clients once a week for one hour ongoing. Tutors will be matched based on their teaching ability, interests and schedule.
There will be no curriculum or set lessons. Volunteers are responsible for developing materials and lesson plans to suit the individual’s needs. Therefore, this position does take a lot of initiative and requires volunteers to be creative and work independently, however it is an extremely rewarding experience and many lasting friendships have developed from tutoring.
Volunteers are welcome to use the computers, printers, scanners, and photocopiers at NCC for materials – the front desk can assist with this. Additionally, NCC has an array of donated English books that volunteers are free to borrow whenever they would like.
If you have any additional questions, do not hesitate to ask.
