Helen Smith Proud to Help Build Community

“I’m proud to support an organization that’s helping to build community. I want to be a part of that work.”

Helen Smith knows what it feels like to be alone in a new country and not know where to go for help. “I needed to become a permanent resident,” says Helen, an accredited and internationally trained accountant who now works with Northumberland-based Part-Time CFO. “I needed help and guidance with the requirements to get my permanent residence card. I’m so grateful the New Canadians Centre was here to help me. They provided the expertise I needed and the encouragement and support to transition into my new life in Canada.”

“The New Canadians Centre is doing great work to help newcomers feel welcome and supported at a time when they really need it.”

Grateful to Settlement Counsellors who went above and beyond to help her, Helen says she can’t imagine what it must be like for people who arrive and who don’t yet speak English. “It was stressful and challenging without having to face a language barrier. The New Canadians Centre is doing great work to help newcomers feel welcome and supported at a time when they really need it.”

Helen recently made a personal donation to support the work of the NCC. “I’m proud to support an organization that’s helping to build community. I want to be a part of that work.”
