Send a Message of Welcome to a Newcomer this Holiday Season!

In November 2016, the New Canadians Centre launched the Messages of Hope initiative to help wish newcomers well during the holiday season. For many, their first holiday and winter in Canada. Since 2016, over 400 messages have been submitted. The cards were displayed at the entrance of the New Canadians Centre, welcoming clients, staff, and community members each day.

In November 2018, Grade 9 students of Ecole Catholique Monseigneur-Jamot, with the help of teacher Jennifer Assaly, designed special holiday-themed cards with welcoming messages that were delivered to schools, organisations, and community members to fill out. Again, our welcoming Peterborough responded. Over 200 cards were filled out by students of Monseigneur-Jamot, St. Paul Catholic Elementary School, Millbrook-South Cavan Public School, Chemong Public School and Adam Scott CVI, in addition to numerous volunteers, donors, community members, and clients of the New Canadians Centre.

This year, the New Canadians Centre celebrates 40 Years of Inspiring and Encouraging Newcomers. For 40 Years, the New Canadians Centre has supported immigrants, refugees, and other newcomers in Peterborough and Northumberland, and our communities have joined us on this journey as partners, volunteers, donors, and friends.

The #WeBelong campaign celebrates the past 40 Years of building community, home, hope, and belonging. This Holiday Season, submit a Message of Welcome & Belonging for a newcomer. We’ll be sure to pass on your message to a newcomer who attends one of our many programs like the weekly Women’s Group, English Conversation Classes, and Youth Group.
