Why do you love volunteering at our Centre?
“I love volunteering at the New Canadians Centre because it allows me to connect with newcomers in Peterborough who are navigating the journey of settling and integrating into society.
As a fellow newcomer, I understand firsthand the challenges of adapting to a new environment. Being able to offer support and guidance to others going through similar experiences is incredibly meaningful to me.
It’s fulfilling to know that I’m making a difference in someone’s life and helping them feel more at home in our community.”
What is one thing you have learned by volunteering with newcomers?
“I have learned the importance of empathy and understanding through volunteering with newcomers. Each person’s journey is unique, and by actively listening to their experiences, I’ve gained a deeper appreciation for the resilience and courage it takes to start anew in a foreign land.
This understanding has taught me to approach each interaction with compassion and patience, recognizing the significance of offering support and guidance during their transition.”
What do you like to do when you are not volunteering?
“When I’m not volunteering, I love singing, visiting new places for fun and adventure, and spending time with my loved ones.”
