Jillien (she/her) is a community-based practitioner who has worked and volunteered in Canadian and international non-profits for more than ten years. She holds a BA (Honours) in International Development Studies and Hispanic Studies from the University of Guelph and MA in Social Justice and Equity Studies from Brock University.
Through working alongside such a wide range of people and her passion for community development based on the skills, abilities and gifts of local community members, Jillien has had the incredible opportunity to learn that what people—whether Tibetan refugees in Northern India or the rural poor in her small Ontarian hometown of Port Hope—want most is to belong.
With over four years of direct experience coordinating volunteers and managing art/music, 2SLGBTQIA+ and Anti-Racism Anti-Oppression programming at a settlement agency in Niagara, she is excited to join the NCC team in October 2023 as the new Volunteer Administrator. Jillien looks forward to supporting volunteers in Peterborough and Northumberland to ensure that newcomers experience this sense of belonging here in her home community.
When she is not working in the community or working on her Teaching English as a Second Language certification at Centennial College, you can find Jillien hiking, canoeing, camping, swimming or biking, making art or food or traveling the world with her partner Kyler, who is a professional musician, and their Mexican rescue dog, Selah.
