Leon’s Peterborough Helping Newcomers Transition to a New Community

“Donations of time and support are my attempt to reciprocate the kindness the community has shown us for many years,” says Tom Reburn Jr.  The co-owner and general manager of Leon’s Peterborough has been a good friend to the New Canadians Centre for many years – supporting some of the organization’s key fundraising events.  Recently, Tom and his team made a donation of new mattresses to support newcomer families arriving in Peterborough.

“It’s important for newcomers to feel welcome,” explains Tom. He has worked closely with the New Canadians Centre’s  Refugee Resettlement Coordinator Jack Gillan to determine how he could be of service to newcomers, particularly families who have endured tremendous struggle. “Working with the New Canadians Centre gives us the chance to helps make the transition to a new city easier and with the support that’s needed,” says Tom.  “I truly believe if local businesses are able to commit to giving back, we can collaboratively strengthen the fabric of our community.”
