So long for now, Carol!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Carol Lawless (centre) has accepted the position of Senior Charitable Giving Officer, Major Gifts and Planned Giving at the Peterborough Regional Health Centre Foundation.

Carol joined the New Canadians Centre (NCC) in 2016 as the Fund Development Coordinator. This was during the height of the Syrian refugee crisis and Carol played a crucial role in bridging community members’ desire to help with the NCC’s role in supporting the settlement needs of refugees.

With her innate ability to tell stories and connect people, Carol had a transformational impact on NCC’s fundraising and communications. NCC’s annual “One Night in …” fundraising celebrations have grown in popularity and profile and the fall Gratitude Report has been a wonderful way to share new Canadians’ stories of hope and resilience.

Carol has cultivated a broad and deep community of supporters, engaging them in the NCC’s mission to empower immigrants and refugees to become full and equal members of Canadian society and to provide community leadership to ensure cultural integration in a welcoming community. Her compassion, humour and quick wit blend seamlessly, whether she is meeting with a new Canadian to learn about their journey or sharing the impact of a donor’s contribution.

With the support of our donors, NCC has been able to launch programming that has had a profound impact on hundreds of newcomers in our community, from the Newcomer Sewing Crew, to the Newcomer Photography projects, our youth group, Girls Group and more. Through her work, Carol has truly touched and profoundly impacted many lives.

We will remember fondly Carol’s enthusiasm for our team activities, including the inter-workplace push-up challenge and penning the theme song for our annual vegan potluck. Her joyfulness and positivity kept our spirits buoyed and brought all of us closer together.

Carol will always be a part of the NCC family. We will miss her dearly and wish her and the team at Peterborough Regional Health Centre Foundation the very best.
