New Partnership Supports ESL Learners
August 2019 Edition of Partnership News by the Peterborough Immigration Partnership
New Canadians Centre has partnered with the Peterborough Native Learning Program to support ESL Learners
The New Canadians Centre has partnered with the Peterborough Native Learning Program (PNLP) to offer computer programs that are focused on English as a Second Language (ESL) and literacy for self-paced learners. PNLP strives to provide the opportunity to both Aboriginal and Non-Aboriginal people, New Canadians along with their families to improve communication, numeracy, and computer skills needed for success in further education & training, employment, or greater independence in life.
Located in the bottom level of Peterborough Square, PNLP is offering NCC clients ages 19+ the free use of their ESL computer programs and learning space during their working hours: Monday to Thursday, 9 am – 4:30 pm, and Friday, 9 am – 1 pm. Programs include practicing and improving pronunciation, active reading, and writing using interactive examples and exercises. While the programs are recommended for clients with CLB 6 and up, we strongly encourage those with lower CLB levels to use the programs with a friend or a tutor. The programs are useful for anyone wishing to improve their English language skills outside of a classroom setting. The programs also offer blended language opportunities for those who wish to complement their classroom learning, as well as others who face scheduling, transportation, and other barriers to attending in-person classes.
To learn more about this partnership and the programs offered, please contact Reem Ali. To book a time slot for using the programs, please call PNLP at 705-741-0798. Stay tuned for orientation opportunities to these programs, available in the fall!
