Peterborough Immigration Partnership Launches Mobile Application for the Peterborough Welcome Pass

October 2019 Edition of Partnership News by the Peterborough Immigration Partnership

Over the past year, we have partnered with Fleming College’s School of Trades and Technology to develop a mobile application to enhance the Peterborough Welcome Pass Program. The Peterborough Welcome Pass offers newcomers an opportunity to connect with Peterborough City and County. Through the generous support of our partners, newcomers can access free or discounted local cultural activities and services.

Four international students spent eight months developing the mobile application, which provides a list of all pass partners, descriptions, social connections, transit information, and a mapping feature. The launch of the app will help to connect newcomers with the Peterborough community by keeping them informed about local opportunities available to them.

Students Gurkirat Singh, Harmeet Singh, Paramjit Kaur, and Mandeep Singh completed this work-integrated learning project as part of their Wireless Information Networking Students program requirements.

The mobile application is currently available for download on the Google Play Store for Android Users.

Many thanks to Gurkirat, Harmeet, Paramjit, and Mandeep for their work developing this application, and to Fleming College’s School of Trades and Technology for this opportunity.

Beginning November 2019, a new group of four students from Fleming College will begin a new project to add features and new design elements to the Peterborough Welcome Pass Application.

Established in 2008, the Peterborough Immigration Partnership (PIP) is a community-based partnership of individuals & organisations which envisions a community where the meaningful economic, social and cultural integration of newcomers ensures a prosperous and inclusive community for all. The New Canadians Centre is the lead member for the partnership.
